I don't want to gum up the good vibes of the Skyrim thread because I am genuinely happy for (and jealous of) all those about to embark on glorious journeys. That said,
I can't be the only one who looks at an image like this and sees revolting tacky bullshit, right? I'm not trying to claim the graphics are outdated or anything - I'm talking about aesthetic choices. The same shiny sheen of crap made it impossible for me to watch my girlfriend & friends play Oblivion without getting totally detached. It's neither realistic nor cinematic... rather it seems fully devoted to (or accepting of?) the fact that it looks like a game. This is not a ubiquitous problem - certain outstanding games overcome the challenge (Portal & Dead Space games, most "gritty" nowadays FPS, and the ultimate-of-all-time example: Shadow of the Colossus). Steam has been hacked! Go change your passwords, I don't have credit card or barely any info on mine, but I know majority of you guys use it.

I like how Steam doesn't send an email out to it's userbase advising them of this hack, nor allow me to change my fucking password despite the fact that they've been hacked.
Welp, time to watch my Credit Card for suspicious bullshit.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
That's a great example that I would've brought up if it wouldn't have sounded insanely queer in an already queer post - James Cameron talked extensively about how generating the visual feel of that movie (a huge task since the majority is CGI) is absolutely NOT "realistic" and is deliberately cinematic. To round out the cinematic analogies: Avatar works at creating a cinematic feel, District 9 succeeds with a realistic feel, while Star Wars prequels look like videogames in the same way Elder Scrolls games do.

well i'm sure it'll be different from this too
i'm still not really sure what your point is ? the graphics look not that great ? or they look video gamey ? i don't think anyone here is playing it for the graphics ? it's not uncharted 3 we're talking about here

right, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that! I just wanted to hear someone else say it... which is an urge only present because of schwaig's posting of "impressive" picsriley-o wrote:i don't think anyone here is playing it for the graphics ?

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
this is one of the bioshock infinite directors talking:
"One of the first things we did when we started on BioShock Infinite was to draw a graph with y and z axes, and to say that one of those axes was the number of enemies in an encounter and the other was the range of those enemies," Levine said. "In the original BioShock, the entire game lived in one corner of that graph – few enemies, all at close range - so the Electro Bolt and shotgun were perfect. BioShock Infinite is going to have much greater ranges and, potentially, far more enemies, so we're greatly increasing the spectrum of encounters that are possible, and that requires the player use a broader set of tools."
that was probably my biggest issue with bioshock, so this is awesome. along with mass effect 3 and max payne 3, this might be my most anticipated game of 2012
