According to IMDB, the "supervising art director" is some dude who also worked on The Phantom Menace and Harry Potter.
I'd be... very surprised if Giger's involvement went beyond the fact that Fox took all his shit and is making money off of it again. I wonder what Scott has to say in his defense as far as that goes.

I am OUTTA here
art is not so important as to require a clear mind upon first viewing, unless you a person incapable of being objective. what sort of scientist are you?
This movie has the best trailer, but I bet it will have some chairiots of the gods shit. Which is sad, as i haven't been so impressed by a trailer in my life.

The whole video game culture is really fucking with movies, though. Vicious cross-pollination...
After watching the trailer, I can't tell if Ridley is purposefully being vague on whether this movie will even be associated with the Alien franchise. I can't blame him for wanting to cut and run, but it'll be a long time waiting for another opportunity to show Hollywood how it's done...

this pre-emptive dislike based upon unfounded assumptions is precisely why you are so pathetic, annoying, useless and worthless.

it looked like a prequel to me, considering that the ship they go into at the beginning of alien certainly looks like the giant ship they have crashing down in the trailer. beyond that it has no associate by virtue of being the story of what happened to the first fuckers there that died.
if the early interview materiel i read with scott is any indication.

Oh Christ, if they graft some Adam and Eve bullshit into the Alien continuity now, I'm seriously going to fly to Hollywood and feed Ridley Scott's corpse to George Lucas.

This. It's the same universe. It appears as though there will be no Xenomorphs in this movie though, so they're probably trying to make sure people don't walk in expecting to see that, or any of the characters they're familiar with from the earlier films. Something along those lines anyway.

I don't remember if any of the Alien movies ever made it clear what year they're supposed to be set in, but I'd have to think they're doing this so it fits continuity.
