Hacker Oktober - really good at being what it is... is there a better value in a $6 sixer than good German beer?

That thing is brutal. That was the first porter I ever had and I thought I needed to chew it. It was pretty good though, I agree with the 7/10.Hunter wrote:Black Boss Porter - I'm not really that knowledgeable when it comes to porters, but it goes down easy, not too sweet, and has a nice head on it. 9.5% abv doesn't hurt either. $1.69 per 1 pint 0.9 oz factors into my rating.

I can understand regularly drinking all these heavy beers if you have a consistent workout routine or get a lot of walking in every day, otherwise it seems like you would have quite a gut. As I'm getting older I'm definitely having to cut back on my beer intake.
I'm in China, so all I can drink these days is Tsingtao and Yanjing.

Samuel Smith Imperial Stout - 8/10 Didn't have the strongest flavor compared to some of my favorites, but still had a nice alcohol tinged warming, and nice body.

Last beer I had was some miller lite garbage or something, while watching the Rays game Saturday night. Doesn't even count.
Has anyone had Kelpie? I think I asked about this in a different beer thread a while back and finally have the report on it: It's MUCH lighter than dark color suggests. A seaweed ale, unique. It has a kind of smokey-ish smell/taste. RECOMMENDED because of the unique taste and I score it at an eight or B.

4/10 Colt 45. It tasted like Budweiser but went down smooth.

Baron Brewing Uber-Weiss 7.9/10 Baron is a local brewery who do german-style beers exclusively. This one (a weissbock) was really good! For bocks, I prefer a doppelbock, but this had a unique bitterness and nutty flavor.
The high abv% was not apparent as we were drinking it.
I love Baron!!

I personally found this year's Alaskan to be as sweet as I remember, so maybe it WAS the batch you got?bloodybloodlicker wrote:That sweetness is why it's my favorite! I'm hoping it's good. I will report back.NANOplague wrote:
Yeah I may have just gotten a bitter batch. I remember the Alaskan being much sweeter last year.

Brooklyn Lager (Brooklyn Brewery) - 8.5/10
Nice smell, looks good, tastes good. Recommended.
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale (Brooklyn Brewery) - 7/10
India pale ales are my favorite type of beer, but this isn't the best pale ale I've tried. Not bad, better than most, but not as good as the Lager.
Picked up a 6 pack of Brooklyn's Pumpkin Ale earlier today. Gonna find out how it tastes once it's nice and cold.
I think Brooklyn Brewery is quickly becoming my favorite North American brewer. Everything of theirs I've tried has been good.

I don't normally like the taste of IPAs. My buddy was dumb enough to leave them in my fridge though.

Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
My roommate opened it and didn't like it so he gave it to me. It's a monday and I wasn't really in the mood for a beer but I couldn't turn it down. It's not bad initially, but the after taste is something I can do without. Drank it while watching Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny so that was fitting. 6.8/10, 7.5/10 without the after taste
