Cyclic redundancy check:who has had any experience with this
My 1tb Western Digital HD is showing this error when I try to access certain folders. they appear empty but when I check properties it shows data. I know what a cyclic redundancy check error is, but how can I fix this and get my image files back?
Im still doing research on this but it looks like a lost cause, has anybody had any experience? if so, did were you able to retrieve your files?
and yes I googled this and know what it is.

I've just rebooted and everything worked out fine whenever this happened to me.

Also, I found a side street in the neighboring town next to mine called Steeb Street. Odd.

Have you tried running a chkdsk? Secondly, have you checked Western Digital's website for firmware upgrades for the drive?

yeah I did both.Teufel wrote:Have you tried running a chkdsk? Secondly, have you checked Western Digital's website for firmware upgrades for the drive?
I also noticed that when I try to copy and paste the folders to my desktop, it wont paste anything. also, the HD says I need to reformat the disk, which I do not want to do.

Try running a defrag using Defraggler then run the Error-Checking tool (assuming you're using Windows).
Select Drive>Right Click>Properties>Tools>Error-checking
If that doesn't work, you're probably SOL.

Chkdsk should've done it. Rape Bear had the same problem when I was fuckin' with his computer and he got all his shit back after that.Steeb wrote:yeah I did both.Teufel wrote:Have you tried running a chkdsk? Secondly, have you checked Western Digital's website for firmware upgrades for the drive?

Also, how did you run the check disk?
If you haven't, try "CHKDSK /F /R C:" in command prompt then reboot
Unless the disk is not C:
Change it accordingly.
If that doesn't work you're pretty much fucked.

I ran check disk through the properties tab and it worked. I will totally burn a disk with this shit on it now, just like people have been telling people to do for years.

Could be your southbridge is going bad, the drive itself is spitting out nonsense, or it'd be your RAM.

Yep, I've seen it happen before, especially when the stupid capacitor idiocy was happening a few years ago. Southbridge chips, while pretty reliable, can go bad. I've seen memory pass memtest86 for days with no problems bluescreen systems in practice.Steeb wrote:so it may be a problem on my motherboard?
