Speaking of the show:

I also half yelled "oh shit" when he turned the corner in Atlanta. I hadn't thought about the lack of "jumpy" scare tactics until I came here and read this thread. Definitely appreciate the pace they're setting and the lack of typical horror gimmicks. Show is way more dramatic and focused on the characters because of it.

Still, him making his way into the tank was one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen on a television show.

I enjoyed the scene in the premiere where the father had a hard time shooting his zombified wife even though he knew it was the best thing to do.
That scene sold the show for me. The music was perfect...just barely there but adding to the sadness and soul crushing. Really well done.

What a great show! Fuck!

Smearing oneself with zombie guts is brilliant. I don't think a movie has done that before - right? Too clever!

Not quite as impressed by this episode. Still good, but it meandered a little too much, or stuttered like it wasn't sure where to go. The detour into the sewers felt like a time waster.

They're doing a good job following the issues I've read, but they're obviously cutting and pasting things together in this episode moreso than in the first. Hopefully that doesn't end up being a problem.

I'd have just left him there. ESPECIALLY if I were the black dude. When the key got dropped, I laughed and did the sad trombone. One less Tea Partier, boo fucking hoo.

I made a comment while watching it about how during the zombie apocalypse, idiots still have the time to be racist.
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
On the flipside, I gotta admit, it didn't take them long to write in the herp a derp, racist stereotype.
The scenes with Glenn at the end in the car ruled. Though I have to ask

What the fuck is up with the Lori/Shane thing on the show? In the comic it was a one night stand right? What is it, a recurring thing on the show? Do not want.

Yeah I wasn't too thrilled on that either. It's making Lori look more like a cunt than anything, especially with her looking like she has the mindset of Shane being a replacement father to Carl. But I'm sure this will be rectified in the next episode and she'll show regret for it like she did in the books.

But overall this episode was kind of a drag. Too much focus on the racism/added characters to the show that werent in the book. Is T-Dog supposed to be Tyrone? I hope not. I liked the themes that Darabont was going for and it fit perfectly. But it dragged out waaaaay too long. A whole episode of them in the city was unnecessary.

Too many new characters killed the isolation and dread that the first episode set up perfectly. The fact so many people escaped the zombie infested city without one person getting killed kinda made the zombie threat miniscule. And the after school special "pull together" speech was ughhh.

I don't really like how the main guy can pull off a headshot every time he shoots, especially when he's running in terror.

maybe it's the same way dead people can come back to life.

I loved it, and my lady - who 9/10 walks out of a room when I'm watching a zombie horror flick was asking to watch more after the second episode.
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
The guts part sets up Michone's entrance later on perfectly.

I think in the conext of the TV series vs the more spaced out comic is that having the group incident and getting away with it allows them to push Rick's leadership of the group early in the piece.

There were a couple of annoying things but on the whole it was awesome.

If anything with the all of the survivors surviving - It goes against 99% of zombie fiction where someone has to be at least bitten in every single confrontation.

not sure if they'll do it, but it's entirely possible that one of them got some splatter in their mouth/eye/skin while Rick was axing the corpse.
I kept thinking that they were too close while he was swinging that thing...

Even though he warned them about it? If it happens, my vote is the black woman as she's the only one I don't remember from the early issues of the comic - But I may be wrong

I resisted re-reading the old ones, but I am still keeping up with the new.

I like that the show isn't using the comic as a storyboard as it does keep it fresher - BUT - There's a few things that simply HAVE to happen or it just won't work.
