Ah, I read in too much. I think I agree with you. The most troubling thing to me is ... the nu metal.

Seriously, who is this for:

So in the future we can have mechs, space travel, and genetically created, mind linked avatars, but we lack the technology to make a paraplegic walk again?

That's a great point - why don't they just clone him a fucking HUMAN body and drop him in it?

I bet the mega-gov-corp has the resources to do that, but it's not trivial for everyone to just do it. So they hit him with the dangling carrot of an able HUMAN body later, but only after he yiffs some smurfs for a bit.

Eh...I'll watch it, but I don't think anything can live up to the "you won't believe you eyes" and 400 MILLION DOLLARS hype. 400 million dollars.

it's obvious there is a lot of hype around this movie, which I'm treating as impartial until i see the movie. While watching the trailer, the first thing I thought of were the Kaskyyyk scenes from Episode III, which looks almost identical. The mecha reminds me of those in the Matrix II and III.

I know Cameron's a good director - he does good work and he knows sci-fi very well. Heck, the guy is on the NASA board of directors. That said, this kind of epic sci-fi fills my meatworm.

Color me disappointed. The mechs/technology looks cool, but everything else, eh.

I watched the trailer like 10 more times and I think I am OK with everything except the hippie/tribal elements. I am excited for tomorrow night.

LOL @ gun/arm mushing on the mech:

The butt of the gun passes into the mech's "forearm", it wouldn't be "for sure" except it turns and different amounts of the butt are submerged.

I can't remember if I wrote this in here or not - but the hyper-vivid colors used on the alien shit is probably a production choice that was made to counteract the dimming effect of the 3D glasses. I will see what's up in stereoland tomorrow, I guess.

Hrrrrrrrrrm, are you sure about this? It looks like its just the angle changing that makes it appear to slide back into the arm.

I have no idea how they animate stuff anymore, but back in the day it was a full 3d model, so they could catch shit like that early on by seeing the animation happen from different angles.

I'm not sure, everyone can make up their own minds. Unfortunarely for you n00bs, SCIENCE gets the last word.

I just watched the trailer like ten times on the HDTV... I think the bigger it is, the more compelling it becomes. I don't blame anyone for laughing at the smurves, but my doubts that this could work as an adventure movie are now gone.

The actual term is "clipping", that is, where two solid forms would not normally intersect in real life but do in the CG world. You can see this shit all over the place on the Clones in Episode III, Iron Man and well... take your pick of video games.

I don't know, Ross. Looks kind of Disney. I'm sure I'll eventually see it.

It looks WAY Disney, and I am thinking it'll work on a Lion King scale, but with more gauged elf-ears.

And yeah Mike, I actively did NOT refer to that fuckup as clipping because this is a music forum and the word's taken ;)
