Silence of the Lambs 9/10
Red Dragon 7.5/10

Getting ready to watch Hannibal next. I heard Hannibal Rising is pretty bad, so I'll save that one for last.

manhunter beats the shit out of red dragon, for the most part. i really really wanted to like red dragon, but the direction was almost as unimaginative as ed nortons horrifically wooden performance.

The Tree of Life - 10/10

Fucking amazing. Not what I was expecting, exactly. Was surprised by his directness with this one - it isn't a straightforward movie, but it isn't ambiguous, either. Can totally see why it would piss some people off.

sounds good to me

going to shroom my way through this with a dear friend in the next couple of weeks, I think

LOL at the directness/not-straightforward juxtaposition though

easier way to say that: I think he says something very clearly without TELLING it - it's all about showing. no holding your hand with a helpful narrative, no shortcuts, just the pictures and the music and a few words.

yeah dude I'm into that

it's what makes Stalker great, something for everyone who shows up with an open mind

edit: maybe not a good comparison, we'll see... I mean maybe Malick has ONE thing to say, in that case it's different

yes!
Tarr does that, too.

There's a sequence in the movie I know you're going to love. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Henry & June - Fake bald dudes/10

In between the pervy aspects, I was so distracted by Fred Ward's fake bald head I couldn't actually concentrate on what was happening til the lesbo stuff without him was on.

Some may think I'm being a little too generous with my score but I love kids on an adventure flick. Overall it feels like someone found a lost Spielberg B-side from the early 80's.

then I'll probably love it more than that because I have total man crush on Kyle Chandler

Bobby Fischer Against The World - 8/10
Good doc...one of a series being aired Mondays on HBO. Awesome! http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/index. ... ies/inside

Trust (1990) - 9/10 Martin Donovan and Adrienne Shelly were really great together...even though it kinda makes me sad to see her in movies now.

Bridesmaids - 7.5/10 I laughed a lot and teared up at the end...looking forward to watching it again.

Scream 4 - 4/10 What a weird movie. At one point the ghostface guy on the phone said "THIS IS NOT AN APP" in his scary voice. A bad movie is still bad, even if you acknowledge how crappy it is throughout.

Also really want to see Super 8 this weekend...

Just watched and would give the same rating and synopsis, maybe drop the rating by .25. I've realized that the Coen Bros. don't know how to make a proper ending anymore.

Haha. We sure did.

Just watched Roadhouse. Like, for the first time in my life. I know, that's probably what's been wrong with me all along. Anyway, obviously everything everyone here has been saying about it is true.
