My thing with game kick starters is that I'm not just going to throw money at a name. If people have concept art or a playable alpha demo or something, anything to convince me then sure. I'm not interested at the moment in the "yesterday we decided to make a game. Today you give us money"

I want very badly for the wing commander dudes new spaceship game to be good but I'm just not seeing anything compelling at the moment to urge me to toss money at him

small gripe: been finding npc bodies I've been stashing around can disappear, then I'm not sure if they've been woken up or just poofed.

That Tropes woman completely missed her deadline for delivering that documentary. :awesome:
riley-o wrote:On the other hand, I think it's sort of weird to write off kickstarter entirely because it's a great tool for artists to use as a direct line of support with their fans, cutting out the fatlapses of the world. And make no mistake, fuck the fatlapses of the world. If a broke-ass band is trying to make an album and I really want to hear that shit, I'll gamble on losing my money giving it to them directly to support them. For example. Same thing goes for the gaming studios-- if they can resist being absorbed by fucking EA with my $10 then cool but if it's just like, "hey thanks for the money" unless you pay the cost of the game, yeah that situation can fuck off.
 Specifically with Obsidian, they have pitched this kind of game to various publishers but were denied every time. They've had a few recent rpg projects cancelled by publishers. Supposedly they were pretty close to shutting down and had to let quite a few people go. If they can do big budget games while keeping their studio alive with small projects like this Kickstarter, I'll back them everytime. I love that studio, bugs and all!, and have been playing games from those guys and their previous studios for years. Getting a game from them with zero outside influence is :mastoman: .

But, I completely understand people not wanting to gamble with their money. It's more for the slightly foolish, the hopefuls and the diehards.

Also, a few fatlapses approached Obsidian about signing a deal for this game. The publisher basically said "We'll market and distribute the game but we own the ip and reap most of the rewards." Obsidian replied, "Nah."

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking about them being able to get away from. I think it was you talking about a publisher saying "Tell you what. You keep up the kickstarter, we'll collect the money and publish the game and we'll split the profits. Whataya say ??"

Fucking Fatlapses. Die, all of you fucking vultures.

Well, I'm done with BL2. I love this game to pieces, but it's now crashed five times in two hours, I've installed it three times, I've checked the game cache over and over, I keep getting conflicting error messages, etc... I'll wait until next year when they've patched this shit so it actually works. Jesus fuck.

....and I can't download Dishonored because I forgot to pay my CC bill. ell oh ell.

started GK2 - already digging the atmosphere. Cheesy acting and shitty video quality aside, it feels great to be playing as that character again. Shadow hunting pseudo detective work rules.

I'm sure you're cooking up something good. Also keep in mind that the people who watch Troma movies watch and enjoy Troma movies. Not the harshest critics.

For what it's worth, I find that almost no matter how the rest of the universe responds to whatever I'm doing creatively, the people here seem to appreciate it.

I'm considering buying a 3DS or a PS Vita next week. I'm really not sure which one would suit me more. Anyone have one or both of these? Which one do you like best? What are some good games?

Vita's not doing so good, would definitely hold off till it gets more software and/or price cut.
