Wasn't Hawes to LAC sexy enough for you? He's no starter but an interesting 7 footer. Maybe not a great assist guy but an excellent passer, ball handler & shooter for a legit 7 footer. Shoots the three well, rebounding and defense are solid. All that said I hated him half the time in Philly. A good vet off the bench with lots of skill though.

i think i'd call hawes average in the truest sense of the word, on both sides of the ball--offense maybe in the front half of that first standard distribution, and defense in the rear half. .360 for three from a guy that size is pretty good, you're right on that one.

I've watched him play aLOT, and in person several times. He's above average but not by much. But any team would like a guy that can do as much as he does. I know he's a career 36% 3 point shooter but he's much better than that now. They used to run the offense through him a lot (remember he played for a 100% shit team) and for that he was missed greatly whenever out of the lineup.

his game may look above average but (pchew pchew sound effects) numbers never lie

edited to add: i think it was still a good pickup, because he's not expected to be the man, or even the fourth the man. he's a bench five that can improve spacing on the second unit. that's never a bad thing for a contender.

What do you guys think about all this Cleveland wheeling and dealing for Love, who'll sign a long term deal if LeBron goes back to Cleveland?

i think it's a gamble they need to take at this point, with actually very little downside: even if they whiff on lebrawn, freeing up that much cap space puts them in a very good position to take on what would otherwise be deemed "bad" contracts for adequate to good players from other teams looking to clear cap space, and give their young nucleus some veterans to help them develop and possibly compete in a bad east. obviously, they need another five, as they're down to varejao and nobody else.

also what's with cleveland drafting canadians? wiggins, thompson, bennett... conspiracy? they won't find cleveland dull after having grown up in canada?

Trading Wiggins for Love, as the rumor mongers are doing would be an idiotic move, IMO.

And I'd be fully shocked if Lebron returns. And even if he does --which would likely be a 1 or 2 year deal, they are nuts to not keep Wiggins.

Wiggins is an unknown but a top prospect...can't risk dumping him for usually injured Kevin Love, as much as I love his game.

Varajao's contract, 9 mill is not guaranteed... which means IF they needed to they can shed his contract and dollars without even a trade. At least how I understand it....

I wasn't with you until you said usually injured K Love. If not for that I'd do it in a second. Love and Lebron would be tough to beat in the East, esp with Irving

as i understand the cba, not really. and per basketball reference, his 2014-15 contract is guaranteed for $4 mil.

anyhow, they really don't need to dump any more salary to get lebron, and probably don't need to in order to afford love once the season starts. they've got tradeworthy assets (varejao's expiring, a shitload of first round picks next year) if love is willing to include a restructuring in the sign-and-trade for the math to work out in that first year. a bunch of contracts will be coming off their books at the end of this year (plus a team option on bennett BYE MOTHERFUCKER) so the math could totally work going forward.

Irvings max contract doesn't kick in until next year, so this upcoming season is still rookie contract.. which makes things easier than they will be next season, salary cap wise.

Somehow I expect this to explode in cavs face like and exploding cigar... They dumped Jack, Zeller, and the other first rounder they fanned on last year and dumped one first rounder too..with protections. Jack was bad last year, but with Brown coaching they all pretty much sucked. Zeller is mr softee, but still was a bench big not making much. Karasev was a d leaguer that played for the new coach in russia--so I assume he was cool with dumping the guy.

considering how spotty at best cleveland's talent spotting and development has been, it may be better that they're cutting bait with their shittier draft picks and leaving payroll open for either the lebron/love megateam or, my recommendation earlier, a bunch of relatively overpaid vets looking to cash in on the next deal (ariza?!@) or from teams trying like hell to save a few bucks.

Chandler Parsons is going to go from the league's most valuable contract to the least. :D

Ariza, so I've read is Cavs plan B.

I'd rather overpay older Deng if they wind up with mountains of cap room and no superstar to sign.

aaaaaand so it begins!

nothing stopping bosh from going to the rockets now.

i did hear tell that melo, loving his money, is asking for a sign and trade to chicago, holding the "i can just sign with the lakers and you'd get absolutely nothing" card as his leverage. of course, that means if he doesn't get the big deal, he'd be joining a shit team with zero title hopes until 2018.

Pretty classy letter, too.

I wasn't big on Melo to the Bulls but if anyone can get him to work on defense, it'll be Thibs. Bosh is crazy if he doesn't go to Houston.

Edit: This is hilarious now.

No guarantees made, but Danny Granger/Josh McRoberts committed to Heat w/ strong belief LeBron James will be a teammate, sources tell Yahoo.

seriously think about how in-position bosh is to straight up kill it in houston. doesn't need to play post defense. free to roam around in three point range. no expectations of being the go-to guy. 22/8 without even trying. who matches up well against that? apart from nobody?

and let's not overlook how easy cleveland's path forward is in the east. a few minor personnel moves (bench post defense, maybe a stretch 4) and they're in the mix.

this new coach is going to be the key to how far they can go--- no Sweet Lord Mike Brown to have them flubbing inbound plays after time outs.

I'm pretty damn shellshocked shockedshocked about all this...even with Chris Sheridan dropping this "decision" 3 days ago.
