The Apocalypse World petered out. The mechanics grew more and more restrictive.

We're back in our Eclipse Phase game.

And in the spring I'll be running A Song of Ice and Fire.

vassal is the only way to do this properly.

edit for download info:

for those interested...
download vassal here: http://www.vassalengine.org/download.php

download modules for arkham horror here: http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Arkham_Horror
for the modules you absolutely need the 'base game' and 'base game decks' to play. go ahead and download all the expansions under version 1.7.1 as well i guess.

work and school don't allow me the time to organize any gaming nights, so someone else will have to handle that shit. doad or eham probably? some of the cards in vassal seem to be missing text last time i checked. i have everything other than the revised cruse of the dark pharaoh, so if i'm playing i can check and answer any questions about missing shit. anyone else with a physical copy of the game could do similar.

you can get modules for other boardgames here as well. there's a fuckton. http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Category:Modules
would love to play og dune some time. never played... and i hate myself for it.

this brings up something i've meant to sort of ask here... anyone ever play warhammer? like either the fantasy one or 40k? i've sort of flirted with the idea for fucking ever, and with this workshop opening up nearby i don't think i'm going to have a choice. is it worth it? fuck, i can't afford to get into something like this... someone talk me out of it.

I'd totally be down for some online gaming with you dudes. I've never played any of these though. What game are you guys planning on doing? Vassal? Do I just need to download the Vassal boardgame engine and that's it? Or do I need all that other stuff too?

you need vassal, as it's the software all of the game modules runs off of. install that shit and then start downloading modules. follow my instructions above for what you need to play base arkham horror.
all vassal does is supply a digital version of the game. you still need to know the rules, and place the cards, chits, bits, pieces, and whatever else. it won't keep track of the game for you. if anyone has any trouble getting shit set up ask here or message me. it's not too difficult. at the very least familiarize yourself with the module and engine. game rules can be explained in game, but they're really not that difficult. move, search, fight monsters and elders. being a coop game, webcams, or at least audio chat, would be ideal.

we don't have to do in one session. it's possible to save games, which is good because shit can run long.

i'm more partial to bigbox expansions. dunwich for fun, and innsmouth for fucking murder, but any of them are good once we get a couple of core sessions down.

there's og netrunner on that shit, too. :bean:

electronicham wrote:I guess my question is WHERE IS THE GAME BOARD?
go here: http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Arkham_Horror
download "Base Game (without decks)" and "Base Game decks"

next start vassal or double click the "Arkham_Horror_FFG" file (the "base game (without decks)" file). that should load the game up, and put it into your module library.

next you want to right click on "Arkham Horror" in your module library and choose "Add Extension". From there navigate to the "AH_base_decks_safe.vmdx" file you downloaded. now you have the cards. restart vassal and double click the arkham horror in your library and choose "Start new game offline". From there choose something other than "observer" and hit finish.

You should now have the board up. Across the top you should see a list of shit: Charts, Tokens, Mythos, Encounter, Other Decks, Heral, Phase, Players, Dice, Info, Setup.
Click on "Setup" and choose "Common Box". That should bring up your character sheets. You can right click on them to interact and choose specific ones. You can drag them to the blank space next to the board or open a new "hand" window in "Players" and manipulate sanity, stamina and what not by right clicking them.
Next click "setup" again and choose "Base Box". This will be all your item, mythos, environment, etc decks. You can shuffle them from this box, or just hit the "Put all in Play" button to put them all in their right spot.

From there the game is relatively set up. Just fuck around with buttons and stuff to get familiar with where everything is.

don't fuck with expansions right now. brings up way too much shit. you can deactivate them in the module library by right clicking on them under the arkham horror menu. all you need is the base decks.

Awesome. Probably a good idea that you guys aren't planning on playing until later next month. that'll give me some time to read up on this and get used to it so I'm not a sluggish noob holding up the game.

this is exactly like playing the physical game. anyone can manipulate everything on the board, so it's easy to fix someone's shit if they don't know what they're doing.
