four fucking great games in the series so far, two pretty boring blowouts. still the best series I've seen in a while. Royals all the way tonight.

Good luck Johnny on game 7 tonight...

met a guy friday night at a bar that drove to KC for one of the ALCS games. I asked how he became a royals fan, he said because he played for the tonawanda royals in little league in the 80s when the Royals were good, and stuck with 'em permanently.

I know the game 7 feeling man, though it's been awhile...its nerve wracking as all fuck.

Geoff, what are you thinking about these Red Sox signings? I'm getting the stench of Crawford/Gonzalez all over again, and I'm kind of nervous.

:awesome:

I think they're a disaster. maybe they're thinking that one of them (almost definitely sandoval) moves to DH once ortiz retires, because hanley is NOT a long-term solution at short, but I think banking on a move to DH is pretty shit strategy unless you're talking about a truly GREAT hitter. neither of these guys are that; a lot of their value has come from their offensive contribution in the context of the positions. I'd be missing theo if I were a sox fan. one of these contracts on their own would be fine- not great, but fine. the combination is...really shortsighted, IMO.

They've really missed that bloated contract standing in front of the green monster ever since Crawford was dealt.

Lol, the Cubs are now a no.2 starter and a bunch of rookie offensive players yet projected as playoff contenders.

They'll never beat the Cards.

I'm excited about the future of the cubs, but kris bryant could end up being dallas macpherson, and then where are you? the team, as presently constituted, isn't anything to write home about. and they still need to trade an infielder for a starting pitcher...but who? starlin probably has the least upside, but at least you know he's a major league starter. russell and baez look nice, but jay bruce and matt wieters were sure-fire hall of famers when they came up, too. the FO there has made smart moves, but this rebuild is no sure thing yet. people are bandwagon jumping just a little fast.

lol, Cubs rotation is solid as fuck. you're out of your depth here. stick to posting your shoes, princess. all of their projected 2015 starters (one might be questionable) had sub-3.00 ERAs this year.

offense is questionable obviously, and I'm fine with saying Baez might be a bust. he's the one they should get rid of for sure. but I'm confident that between Rizzo, Castro, Soler, Bryant, etc., they'll at least be an average offensive team. despite their record, their run differential last year wasn't bad. a little more timely offense would make a huge difference to them.

I've been on this bandwagon since I was 6 years old, I'm not getting off any time soon.

I wrote that message staring at the ball I had Soler and Bryant sign during BP in the minors last year. they'll make sure everything turns out all right

Does that included Jacob Turner, DFA'd by the fucking Marlins last season? Wada and Hendricks; both of who have started less than half a season above AAA? Edwin Jackson and Travis Wood who LOL?

Their rotation is a solid Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta coming off an anomaly of a year, and a bunch of who knows.

what's their projected rotation? lester, arrieta, wood, hammel...kyle hendricks? jacob turner? doubront? you know what you're going to get from lester and wood, I'd assume (travis wood will pitch a bunch of unspectacular innings)...but arrieta and hammel are way less convincing. I like both of them, too. arrieta a lot. I don't know if you can just pencil in 2014 sort of seasons for those guys, though- especially after looking at what hammel did in oakland.

is hendricks any good? I know him as a name, and as someone who existed in fantasy baseball, but I haven't laid eyes on the guy. that 5th spot doesn't look so solid to me. but I don't really know.

also fuck you for getting to watch anthony rizzo all the time.

I'm assuming Lester, Hammel, Arrieta, Hendricks, and either Wood or Wada (who was close to sub 3.00, but I was wrong).

I'm a Cubs fan, it's in my nature to get overly optimistic about the possibility of a decent team. but... BUT, all those guys looked great last year, excluding Hammel post-trade (he was probably just depressed he wasn't with THE DYNASTY anymore). Hendricks was great last year over his 15 or so starts, and I'm happy to see a young Cubs pitcher rely on hitting his spots rather than pure heat. they've had so many guys with insane arms but inconsistent control just flame out.

I'm still most excited for Bryant above all though. I saw 6 or 7 games last year and he was just insane, both in BP and games. Baez looked BAD when he came up though, embarrassingly bad. I'm worried about him, but even if he's a bust I think there's enough depth coming soon. Soler had some trouble near the end of the season but overall I thought he was impressive, and his unproductive at bats didn't look nearly as bad as Baez's... he seems more capable of cutting down on his swing.

in summary.... RIP Cards

So no bump for the new season?

Tigers are kicking ass. Shane Green looks like another pitching steal for Dombrowski.

The LOLMets have been surprising. Of course half their roster is going to the DL.

The Cubs paid $155m for a pitcher with the yips. Wrigley Field is fucked, and the shit put on its the field the last 5 years has seeped into the stands because of a lack of bathrooms. I 'd when the city denied them the right to work on the stadium at all hours. Fuck them for lying about expected timeframes.

NYY haven't been as bad as hoped...yet.

KC are being a bunch of xasthur fans about the A's for some reason.
