I would have put him in the katbox, but it would have taken longer... namely me poking around until I figured it out. I chose to take the more immediate action. That big red BAN button in the admin section has been taunting me far too long.

Totally agreed. Day-bans are easy to implement and a reasonable practical fix for basically any problem.
