Do you think animals have the capacity to enjoy music?

I have known several animals that appear to enjoy certain songs or types of music...my current catbaby loves bass-heavy tunes. I can't tell if she just enjoys it because she sees how it affects me, or if she actually likes it.

Input?

i leave the house often. cycles, you know? sometimes im never here, other times i can never leave. i'm all or nothing, beauty or ugliness, purity or sin! it's kind of awful but it's good to know i'm actually alive!

a lot of these pm's are really cute and sad. i don't know, i'm having a hard time deleting them. is there an easier way to save them besides lots of copy + pasting? am i an internet hoarder?

Not what I meant.

I remember reading a long time ago in a zine about a cat that had a particular affinity for Paradise Lost, but I'm pretty sure that was just a drunken lie. My girl cat always banged on the door when I played certain strings on my guitar too much (sounds like kittens crying) but she was also really territorial and didn't like when my door was closed because she couldn't come through on her patrol rounds.

gahhahahahahaaaa.

i think my cat just likes me because i like her so much. she doesn't have a whole lot of options, i guess, so she's just down for whatever. i like her attitude, it somehow doesn't seem pathetic when SHE pulls it...

My birds get very vocal when I play guitar, but then again, they do the same when i use the sprayer in the kitchen sink.

Usually when I play music on the home stereo, my kitty will start rolling around on the floor near the speakers. Maybe she enjoys the music, but more likely she enjoys the vibrations scratching that itch that a kitty can't scratch.

I can't find anything on the web to back this up, but I remember reading in a textbook that dogs do not interpret frequencies in a manner that is similar to the logarithmic interpretation that happens in human brains. They also have a finer granularity in regards to temporal arrival. Hearing plays a bigger part in a dogs survival (evolutionary role) than a human, and they hear a much broader range.

So I think its only obvious that dogs like analog recordings, specifically: Christopher Cross

Cats and dogs like country picking and slide blues guitar played on an acoustic, they hang around it on porches everywhere I've seen. The tones must signify food source to them or something.
