Anything, really. It's all equally crap and I can doze through any of it.

Now if wakefulness was also condition of this force, I might opt for the bullet.

To me metalcore is post KsE stuff. I make a difference between metalcore and metal hardcore band, such as Snapcase who is a hardcore band with metal influences. Killswitch are more a metal band with some hardcore influences. Misery Signals is a metalcore band (and I like them) but I'd never consider Coalesce or Gaza to be metalcore bands. Same goes for Converge.

i mean i agree with you in that pre-2001ish metalcore has nothing to do with stuff like KSE but it doesn't change the fact that we used to call stuff like that metalcore back in the day.

If you say so, I believe you but I'm still surprised to read it since I've never encountered the term associated with these bands. It doesn't matter much anyway. What does surprises me is that people would consider Coalesce, Converge, Gaza or Deadguy as some sort of guilty pleasure.

I don't see them that way, though. I think that was the point of the thread intially, but the term has existed longer than the shit bands associated with it these days, so it morphed into "bands I like that could be called metalcore, either by modern or past standards."

Eh, the media latched on to Killswitch and Shadows Fall and that became
"metalcore"
instead of calling it what really is ("pop")

Alright then. And I completly agreee with kmfcm too, what these bands are doing now is just pop. It's not bad, but it's as catchy and "safe" as a Lady Gaga song.

Did no one else catch this gem?

No one has to force me to listen to metalcore, but then again no one has to force me to pretend I'm cool either, there are a whole bunch of bands that came out of the mid-to-late 90s scene, and quite a few since then that are total tits and a helluva lot more worth my while than nowadays bands pretending there 80's thrash bands, basement dwelling beige metal boredom, oh-so-shocking ICP level maturity 'grind' and a lot of other rip-off, derivative garbage that swirls around the underground who's cred is never questioned half as much as metalcore is, but which would be many times more embarrassing to admit to listening to.
