I'll probably be there. Looks like it will be at the Ritz, which is a pretty lame, ugly club where all the mid-level bands play and drinks are like $8+, etc... Technically, it's in Ybor City, which is basically a small party town inside of Tampa with a cool Cuban history. It's a great place to visit in the day but an awful place to be on weekends at night.

I've spent so many summers in Ft. Myers because my dad's family lives in LaBelle and Ft. Myers is at least better than Moorehaven or wherever they have the Swamp Cabbage Festival. That being said, I pretty much refuse to ever set foot in Florida again.

whoa whoa WHOA. Fuck the haters. Tampa owns. Ybor owns. You have to know how to do it, and if you can't figure it out, you're a fucking brain-dead, breathing corpse who don't know how to run it. But that's okay too, because on the up side the people-watching is incredible and entertaining, so you can be that anti-social, Florida hating fly on the wall after all. You'll go back home with stories though, and maybe it's just me, but that's leagues better than going to some boring town and your best story is spotting a haystack and an old farmer with missing teeth. Here if you spot a dude with missing teeth, he's young and it's due to METH. Way better.

Justin, it's only at Ritz? I thought I read somewhere it's multiple venues, which makes me curious where else it might be. Probably O for another one. Crowbar? And ???

If laughing hysterically while gouging your own eyes out is not up your alley, and you need something more mom and pop suited and laid back you can go across the awesome HOWARD FRANKLIN BRIDGE to our often voted number 1 or close to it by various whoever does these polls beaches. If you don't like beaches you can go to either downtown area made up of mostly local business, with a ton of shit to do and a million museums including the
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
holocaust museum
And places like DINOSAUR WORLD, fuck yeah

Not to sound like a brochure here but the Tampa Bay area is incredible and really has stuff to offer anyone for being not the biggest cities around.

I had to go there A LOT in the 90s for business. You can resume it like this:

South Florida = Latinos, mainly Cubans
North Florida = Old people

My businesses were all in Boca Raton, it is probably the most boring place in the whole planet. We used to drive every second night to Fort Lauderdale to visit stripclubs, that was fun though.

You can go for free for your birthday!

Other neat stuff:
Peter O. Knight airport (Davis Island) or Albert Whitted airport - discovery flights! Good for people who think they're photographers and want aerial photos
Theme parks/ water parks
mosi museum and dome theatre, take an adventure through outer space!
salvador dali museum
florida aquarium
fantasy of flight - aviation history and vintage aircraft collection
ghost tours (if you're into that sort of thing...)
mummies of the world exhibit at the museum of science and industry
etc etc etc
Tampa Bay is such a shit hole...

I don't think it is. I also feel that the board is firmly in agreement that if Ohio had sunny beaches, it would be Florida.

Tampa's not really a shithole, but it's like EVERY medium-large city in the country in that there are some really cool places surrounded by a lot of ugly garbage. I was just in Ybor city the other afternoon in the sunshine with a cool breeze, sitting in the courtyard of a brewery while enjoying some locally-brewed beer and a cigar rolled a few blocks down the road. It's actually a pretty cool area when you're not trying to walk from point A to point B on a Saturday night and having to deal with such a dense population of assholes on a single street.

Kelly, I hope it's at multiple venues. The Ritz is far from my favorite, and I think Crowbar would be a much better choice for a lot of bands that aren't quite at 1000-capacity crowds yet, at least in Florida terms (FL has a shitty scene). Either way I'll check it out, but only if Brett pawns $400 worth of his most prized possessions to extend his MDF vacation and come down to FL.
