Call me a prude if you must but I've never felt that what was really lacking in Moby Dick was a bunch of trashy dimestore romance novel sex scenes between Ishmael and Queequeg.

I can't get into this thread with that stellar FUCK A DOG OR HORSE thing competing.

If that author can turn housewife's into two-headed snake fuckers, then I've got to say she MUST be a good writer. Until then, ZZZZzzzzzz

so my sweetie was enraged by the stupidity of the first book by its conclusion, and refuses to read any more of the series; I am simultaneously proud/relieved and a little bit bummed that she won't have more stupid gems to share... I already mined plenty of them (from books 2+3) for this thread, but I wanted it to be a journey of derision we'd take together

anyway I told her to read hitchhiker's guide next and she is loving it so I think her brain will be OK after all

Have we really got such short memories? Do we need to be reminded why book-burning is a bad idea?

Apparently so, because a women’s refuge in the north east has announced that it will be making a bonfire of copies of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey and there doesn’t seem to have been much of an outcry.

Clare Phillipson, of Wearside Women in Need, said the sado-masochistic theme of the book was 'vile' and urged women to drop off copies to her office for a bonfire on November 5.

there's probably plenty of :bean: and to be fair it can take women longer to get off,

oh! this reminds me: Cosmopolis has the Edward vampire (inspiration for the dude in this originally-Twilight-fan-fic book) actor playing a young millionaire fancy lad - I hope 50SoG fanmoms wander into that movie and get really confused and mad

i counted 10-12 females walking out (with untold/uncounted numbers of male dates etc) before the midpoint of the movie. there weren't a lot of people when it started and there were maybe 10 of us when it was over. tons of awful nervous 'this is SO weird' type laughter at things that weren't jokes. one fat weird dude wearing no shoes started snoring loud as fuck and i had to wake him up twice (true story) because no one would go near him.

it was pretty tedious and disorienting for those types of people though. it wasnt surprising at all. but there was enough sex and uncomfortable situations that i thought they'd be more entertained than they were..

Big old pile of these books stocked immediately inside the entrance of my local Wal-Mart. Right next to the giant pallets of bottled water and discount potato chips. Fucking surreal. I have to say though, I absolutely love the idea of deviant sexuality being so casually and overtly commodified. Impulse buy items... batteries, gum, lighter, anal prolapse book. America is healing
