that's a winner in my book.
My initial reaction was NO WAY

Thought about it...greatest hits...

even as a young shaver, for a big lots shopper like myself, buying "singles" for any band was just not gonna happen. I needed value and a pile of songs if ponying up my own cash... So my first experience with Flag was this "first four years" collection--which to my ears works as a full on LP (time duration of the pile of 35 second maesterwerks not an issue here).

In otherwords, not only is the music awesome, but the product itself was wholly needed, unlike most comp/hit cash grabs, which only serve the purpose of boosting sales and giving a consumer a denser collection of more well known tunes.

If I simply heard, I dunno, a "Jealous Again" single, I'd have though, cool song. But I'd not know the brilliance of Black Flag. I needed that collection. The world needed that collection.

I'll be the first to admit, that perhaps, I listen to some pretty undesirable music, but truthfully, there is some complete garbage being discussed in this thread.

hahaha

By the way. Who cares what you listen too. As long as you enjoy it that is all that matters.
Well yeah, of course. I guess this isn't directed at any individual, but really, ZZ Top, Tom Petty? Come on, have some self respect. HA!

Controversy time

Listen to everything. EVERYTHING Danzig's ever done.

The Misfits on their worst day run laps around any other song in any other band he's played in.
including Samhain? Really?

When I listen to Samhain it's like getting blueballs. Each time I expect something cool or interesting to happen in a song it finishes.

my girlfriend and coworker conspired to drag my ass to a guns n roses show last week, and the twenty five songs they played really solidified them as a greatest hits only band, since 2/3 of those songs were trash. I spent a lot of time there thinking about Slash's guitar playing and how he can do so much with his fretting hand balled up into a fist the whole time. pentatonic scale & bends - I guess this dude was right all along:

as soon as I saw this thread resurface, I had a shudder thinking about my bad posts in here - there are tons of solid songs outside the collections

still can't listen to any of their records start-to-finish except seventh son, though

Was Van Halen already mentioned?

I'm a retarded Sammy Hagar fan, so I really like the albums he released with VH, but there are also quite a few songs that are just there.

Boston is a weird one because pretty much every song off the debut was a hit and also kicked ass but then after that the only song really worth a shit is "Don't Look Back".

I pretty much only listen to I and II in full and then every other song I like from them is on one of their hits compilations
