when you have a drum beat that goes snare/kick/snare/kick... what is that called? I always called it "snare on top" but googling suggests that this is not widely used. is there a better name?
ALSO, what are the origins of this beat being used in in rock/punk/metal/jazz? was it used randomly in lots of genres? who really went to town with it?
