Im going to follow you and keep this Floyd-centric.

The Final Cut is better than Wish You Were Here.

I just do not get the appeal of Gojira whatsoever. Probably not controversial here, but on every metal site/board/social media outlet it would be met with resounding cries of nerds trying to explain why they're good to me. Nothing about their sound grabs me in any way.

Portal will always be garbage

Neurosis will always be boring

Rap is for giblet heads

Doom/stoner is probably the worst genre ever, next to noise

Black Seeds Of Vengeance was the last good album by Nile

The Mob Rules is the best Sabbath album

Misfits/Danzig both suck major shit

Everything by Emperor is lame

The kids seem really impressed by someone doing an upward rake while sliding their hand down the fret board.

I’m pretty sure Nevet’s hated them.

I don’t despise them but they never grabbed me either when everyone was shitting their pants over them. The concept is cool and anyone trying to do something to break out of the standard death metal formula I can applaud even if the execution falls flat.

Some of the band members where in another band before Portal that was more of a slam death project. They actually consider it embarrassing now. It’s pretty decent IMO

“Noise Grind Power Death” was Insect Warfare’s best release and it’s basically a tribute to Nikudorei’s split with Anal Massacre.

Homo Police were better than Insect Warfare.

I like Tool and I like Opeth and Gojira fans seem to be absolutely shocked that I can like those bands and NOT like Gojira. Something about their production style sounding sterile as shit, the "innovative riffing" that doesn't grab me because their guitar tones are ass, and their just there vocals do not impress me at all. Oh, they sing about global warming and they're French, isn't that cool? A metal band from a country not typically known for metal, wow, how impressive.

Sterile production
99% of modern metal sounds sterile. Everyone is using the same exact plugs ins, axe effect patches, Kemper settings, whatever. Someone like Steve Evetts could get a crystal clear sound without the band sounding completely neutered.

It's just annoying. I get why that type of shit is ideal live these days as opposed to lugging amps but in the studio I want to hear some unique tones coming from actual gear. Kurt Ballou is one of the last remaining heavy producers who just records real shit, it seems. People talk about how Gojira sounds so "massive" and I just don't feel that at all.

I mean we could raise funds as a community to buy 1970s equipment for young metal bands but they'd spend it all on pokemon cards and bitcoin fentanyl

like seriously I can't be the only one to have ever crowdfunded a big muff pedal for some 21 year old guy in a doom metal band only to wind up being listed as next of kin for a xanax overdose soundcloud rap show right?

Isn't this true of most grindcore bands? They release one album that defines their sound, then they either repeat it and get boring, or they get too weird and go against what made most people dig them in the first place. I can't think of many grind bands that I enjoy multiple albums by, but then again that's not really my favorite subgenre anyway.

Yeah it was definitely odd hearing need to control when it was released. I love that album and sounds of the animal kingdom, but they should have changed the band name after extreme conditions/perpetual conversion as it obviously sounds like a completely different band.

Dave Witte was originally asked to drum on need to control, but he was busy with human remains/discordance axis. just imagine if he stepped in and played with bt.
