Talk to me about Vegas

My boo wants to go to Disney with the 2 year old. A bit of research shows it will be close to if not over $7k for five days.

Fuck that. I don’t even like Vegas, but she does, and I’m also thinking NoLa as an alternative, without lord darksoul or torsion.

Vegas rules if you do it right. Also, like is there some new Disney thing out there? I know you know this but Disneyland ain't anywhere near Vegas

Disney is actually closer to Cuba than it is Las Vegas. It's one of those things.

In terms of food NOLA and Vegas are both impeccable, with Orleans being cheaper and tastier. Booze is also cheaper and they are more straight up bars in NOLA, but both towns rule for day drinking. Vegas hands down has more shows and spectaculars to watch at night. Woman are also hotter in Vegas. Vegas is tackier and more obnoxious to walkthrough, but definitely cleaner and less sketchy. With covid and masks and all that jazz, I prefer NOLA. It even had a big ass casino right there in the city, if gambling is a must.

Vegas/Nola have nothing to do with the desire to have a Disney themed park anywhere nearby. In fact the further the better, almost everything about the company irritates me.

I’m starting to think like a dad now though and want the kid amused as much as possible without me being annoyed to tears. I guess Vegas would be better for this 🤔

My kids absolutely love Vegas but they're older and love staying in hotels irrespective of location. There's a decent amount there for a toddler: aquarium at Mandalay, the garden/habitat at the Mirage, the arcade at Excalibur, the fountains and conservatory at the Bellagio, and the canals at the Venetian. There's a kids-type museum in downtown Vegas if you need a moment away from the strip—and you can't go wrong with a day at the pool. We got cabanas at the Luxor pool last time we were in town, and that was a worthwhile investment, especially with a little one: a private space to relax, to eat, and let the kiddo take a nap. (Don't stay at the Luxor unless you're staying in the tower; the main pyramid rooms are... fine if you don't mind the latent stink of cigarettes, but the tower rooms are extremely nice if far away from the main gaming floor.)

My suggestion for staying in Vegas is the Park MGM. The entire property is smoke-free, which really makes a difference. Centrally located on the strip, not too far from any of the destination casinos. Decent food selection on site too, if just because of Best Friend, which is otherworldly (though probably not super 2-year-old friendly, as it's pretty loud with zero kids menu).

It used to be easy to find cheap stays for 3-4 nights somewhere on the strip, and red eye flights are usually reasonable (or at least they were 10 years ago). I second the MGM, Flamingo is also a decent location too.

I hate the idea of vegas on an ideological basis

but I actually had a really good time when I was there a couple years ago. I stayed at the park MGM just like andrew and it has my endorsement as well!

you guys should go - it will be fun

lol at $7k for the disney experience

Oh yeah, Vegas over NOLA for kids. Circus Circus has a mini amusement park. Although, those casinos are mega structures. Walking from one to another might be deceptive in terms of how far they really are and tire the youngsters out.

I only been to Vegas once--- technically a work trip, but still It wasn't an expensive trip. Then again, other than putting down a few sports bets for NBA and NFL, I didn't gamble.

I stayed in the "old" area called Freemont. Not far but a mile or two up north from the "strip". Its like where the old casinos were before the glitz and glam of the strip. These have more old school glitz, where all you needed was some flashing light bulbs, instead of recreating egypt. Kinda fun, could walk around pretty much with a beer can in a brown bag like a hobo, and listen to corny but pro cover bands. Think one was like Zowie wowie bowie or something. They played until like 4 am every night could hear it even in my room.

I stayed in this old joint Three (? or Four?) Queens. My room smelled like smoke. It was like $75 a night. Hookers not so subltly chat ya up, probably even with your wife n kids in tow. KnoweE?

I walked down where the "old" glitz ends found a couple old record stores, this old school bar..the Atomic or something, legend hunter thompson hung out there. And found a regular rock music venue with $3 PBRs. I went there for a couple shows that happened to be going on. one night a Mexican tribute to Morrisey...and the other night I saw Red Kross and Melvins.

I walked around the entire strip, my work shit was in Mandalay Bay..Santana was there but I was too cheap$kate to pay $130 for a friggin rock show, as much as I AM a fan. Popped in all the casino's I'd seen on TeeVee from movies and boxing matches.. Caesars, tropicana, circus, etc etc. I also went to a couple locals bars, not on the strip. Cheaper beers and soak it all in.

Been a few times. Ok times.
One plane ride home was 6am on a Monday.
We sat in a row behind some strippers also heading home.
I over heard a brief part of their conversation:
"Ya, he completely changed, he did a complete 350".

Femont Street. Go zip lining, get paddled at the Heart Attack Grill, then finish your day shooting an uzi at Battlefield Vegas.

that reminds me of Steely Dan's taxi cab confessions bit, driving around vegas with a stripper in the back seat... she found out who they were and

"O M G! STEELY DAN, I LOVE THAT SONG, REELING IN THE THEIVES"
