Just stumbled across this fact about The China Syndrome:

The March 1979 release was met with backlash from the nuclear power industry's claims of it being "sheer fiction" and a "character assassination of an entire industry". Twelve days later, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident occurred in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

"As of 2014, there have been more than 100 serious nuclear accidents and incidents from the use of nuclear power. Fifty-seven accidents or severe incidents have occurred since the Chernobyl disaster, and about 60% of all nuclear-related accidents/severe incidents have occurred in the USA."

There's a really obscure rapper from ththe middle of PA who lived near TMI and was a small child when the incident happened. Most of his songs are about poison, fallout, toxicity or radiation. Many references to TMI. He's released about five albums a year for over two decades. Very interesting from a psychological perspective.

Nolan is making the press rounds saying that J. Robert Oppenheimer is “the most important person who ever lived,” so it logically follows that his film is crucial viewing and that all of his seriously considered directorial choices are also terribly important. Critics take down the information about these choices like publicists and report them faithfully to a duly impressed public — such as Nolan’s surprising decision not to show the Japanese victims of the atomic bombings. Instead, we see Oppenheimer merely imagining the effects of the bomb on members of his rapturous American audience.

But the absolute lack of physical reality given to the results of dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki — the refusal to portray mass annihilation — is one of the film’s more stunning glossing-over effects. It’s ludicrous, the idea that Oppenheimer’s imaginings, safe in the United States, of the flayed skin of a few people in his audience who are applauding his speech, and a charred body impeding his path as he takes his triumphal march away from the podium, is somehow “more effective and chilling.”

Not showing in any memorable or realistic way the ghastly consequences of Oppenheimer’s biggest achievement is a safe-playing strategy, once again, to preserve audience sympathy for the hero, which you generally need if you want a big blockbuster hit. And Christopher Nolan always wants a big blockbuster hit.

this is a tree-hugging thread by tree-hugging me!

antinatalism becomes more and more of an ethical mandate each year

I understand why people might still have kids - it feels good! - but it's basically indefensible at this point. same thing with veganism - you don't need to be a vegan, but you gotta acknowledge that you're not the best person you could be.

Man, these right wing chuds can't help but insert a jab at Obama at any possible opportunity, right? I mean sure, Obama sucked... but this is supposed to be an educational video for schools or whatever, right?

It seems especially sinister considering people might think there's some sort of connection between the Manhattan Project and the Manhattan institute, considering the subject matter. The Manhattan Institute is a right wing think tank where the CRT and Trans agenda propaganda originated, spearheaded by Chris Rufo. I have to imagine that there's some corporate interest behind the message of this video.

Not to derail the thread but the fact that some schools are actually using prageru vids is pretty disgusting. Supposedly some for profit prisons and half way houses for drug addicts force people to watch this shit.

Let's play a game with this one and see if we can spot the verbal trick/lie through omission that is going on here:
