What's the most you've read in one sitting?

I read The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands in one night when I was a teenager. I think I was awake for about 18 hours. This was the large format paper back with the cool Ned Dameron art. I saw the regular format version later and realized it's like a 650 page book. Some guy at my old job claimed he read War And Peace over a weekend but I say he's a lying mother fucker.

I read some dumb dean koontz book in one car ride back in middle school. Aside from that I'm way too riddled with adhd to do more than 40 pages at once, unfortunately. I might body a book in two weekends but I'm gonna get up and wander around every chapter or so. Even then it's rare.

It's sad for me. As a kid I did nothing but read, we legitimately did not have a television or anything for many years. In 4th grade I was reading one of those shitty d&d novels a week. Sometime around 9th grade or so my attention span just shattered and I never got it back.

Still reading a book all the time, but its this sad 15 minutes before bed thing. Those days where you're making love to a book for hours are something I can rarely recapture.

I had down loaded the entire Berseker manga catalog that had been published at the time in 2011. Wife & kids were on summer vacation while I was home (had to work) and was too hungover to play a game or watch TV to I read through a hunk of it from 3pm to 11pm or so.

I read Agape Agape in like four hours but I was totally drunk at the time and probably absorbed 5% of it.

Reading while drunk is awful, I’d sooner throw the book out the window.

I can't remember, but when I was studying for my master's exams I sometimes spent like 8 hours reading in a single day, so it probably happened during that time. It's also why I'm now a guy with a literature degree who doesn't read.

i also have a memory of reading all of matilda in one car ride as a kid.

crushed the back end of malone dies and all of the unnamable in one sitting at the dmv. basically did murphy and watt in similar fashion, one and half or quarter sessions. let it come down and up above the world back to back in a weird sleepless trance somewhere in texas on tour with friends band. finished up above the world and felt completely destroyed, could barely speak for the entire day afterward. my 20s were full of those kinds of gorging experiences. i'm late to cormac mccarthy but i noticed, aside from blood merdian, ive tended to power straight through in massive chunks

i've always read pretty slowly and still do but every once in a while i'll just go into a trance and lose track of time and the book basically disappears in my hands. majority of the time i can only do 40-60 pages of anything before i'm distracted and get sucked into phone/internet bs

Sounds like I need to add Paul Bowles to my 600 author long list.

Its pretty cool to imagine someone reading 1700 pages of thomas pynchon and then rolling off the couch to go listen to some porn grind while cooking dinner

Bleeding Edge mentions Sarcafago and another black metal band I forget so I'm sure Pynchon would approve of his readers enjoying some Queef Huffer while making beef wellingtons and hot pockets.

Lanny Budd series, two books in like three days when I was on vacation. I remember reading at restaurants and servers making way too much small talk out of a sense of I assume pity, and a few times I had to hit em with the "I would like to read my book please."

I read all those "The Familiar" books in a few days each. They are all exactly 899 pages long but more like 300 with all the graphics and empty space. So pissed the publisher won't pay for the cost of continuing the series. Maybe some eccentric billionaire will just vomit a pile of money at Danielewskis' feet.

up above the world is fast and digestible. you might not have the same reaction i did but i was uniquely primed for it at the time.

When you do have kids it unlocks weird bonus time sometimes. I haven't figured that out yet. Out of total desperation you wind up being more focused on the things that interest you in the time that you do have.

I was on one of the strongest acid trips of my life on Sep 10 and decided to eat a few pages of that art. 8/10, would recommend.

I knocked out Walter Bowarts Operation Mind Control in one day, but that's just 285 pages.

I read up to THE WASTE LANDS and then never continued with that series. I dunno why, I really liked that stuff and I felt like he really started cooking by that point. Never ate any of them tho

It was weird to watch everyone flip shit being disappointed by the last book, kindve a preview for all the big BAD SERIES ENDINGs that happened later.

Used to binge Terry Pratchett's wonderful stuff, you can breeze through the discworld novels in no time. Took me one to two days for one novel.
