Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
Hatchet I-III - / 10
First one was kinda decent, had some pretty handmade gore effects. Second one was ok, too, but those were about as many Hatchet films I needed to see. Third one was worse on all levels except gore (even dumber dialogue, shitty overacting all around).
I don't really get this type of retro filmmaking. There was nothing creative in here, unless you think various gory generic dismemberments (which sometimes felt like a couple of drunk on tiny bottles of beer teenagers had come up with them - ripping somebody's head off by choking them with their own entrails? is a bit of very basic physics too much to ask?) is cutting edge stuff. What is the point of trying to make a film that wants to be as average as possible in all ways?

I had no idea about the CA blackouts being the result of these slimy fuckers trying to make money from thin air - that shit was astounding. I'm so glad they forgot to shred the tapes of those traders yukking it up mid-scamming.

A Quiet Place - 6.5/10
Basic premise was well executed but trying to have a baby in the sound-activated creature apocalypse is walking dead season 2 levels of stupid. Get real. Abort! And did they really steal the Achilles heel plot twist from the retarded wizard in Feast 3? Christ
Also, the creature design was uninspired.
I liked the way their heads split open and shifted about like miniature tectonic plates, but ultimately it was a bit too much clovie meets pumpkinhead meets demigorgon. Underwhelming

Point Break - 8.5/10
Is Hollywood capable of producing such a cool movie nowadays? Everything’s changed.
Dirty Dozen - -12/10
The only good thing about it was Jim Brown beating the shit out of someone. And Clint Walker

Ratcatcher - 9
I watched this because I'm about to see the new movie she directed with Joaquin Phoenix getting Dick rode hard
Flat out quietly blew me away. I know it was Praised in certain circles of the time, but it is absolutely A gut punch. Makes Lars Von Trier look like Wes Anderson
could not recommend it more highly

He says he'd prefer you not like his movies because you're a dopey asshole.
Sorry to have to break that news to you.
No, hold on, strike that last thought and kill yourself.

Ideally, society should be organized via a warrior-priest aristocracy.
I can trace my ancestry all the way back to historic germanic tribal chieftains in fact.

Rampage - 7/10
Took a much longer time to get where it was going than it needed to, could have used a little less battling, a lot less humans doing anything except dying, and a lot more Rampaging, The Rock does basically nothing but his smouldering from Jumanji and running as awkwardly as Steven Seagal, and I absolutely hated when Sif dies but holy FUUUUUCK when the giant monsters were trashing the city I was in heaven.
Also right near the end of the movie, a woman in our packed theatre screamed SHUT UP at someone, and not two minutes later the guy I was sitting next seemed emboldened, and turned around and loudly hissed SHUT UP at the chatty idiots behind us while his two sons looked mortified.
